Confessions of a Cruising Correspondent

Saturday 18th February 2017,  Evening Meeting at RHYC, Woolverstone

Confessions of a Cruising Correspondent, Dick Durham

Bar open at 1800, meal 1845, talk 2000, finish approx. 2200

A chance to hear a repeat of the prestigious 2016 Hanson Lecture given by Dick Durham at CA House. Dick is well known as a journalist, yachtsman and raconteur. In his childhood he explored the creeks and rivers of Essex, Kent and Suffolk in a collection of dinghies and dayboats. When he left school he signed on as mate of the Thames sailing barge Cambria and served on the last working Thames barge before beginning his writing career on Fleet Street, writing for national newspapers and sailing magazines.

He joined Yachting Monthly in 1998 as a feature writer and news editor and has travelled the globe in search of the best sailing stories and adventures. He is well known for his powerful and poetic writing style. Dick will conduct us on a tour around his home cruising ground, taking in yarns told, boats sailed, characters met, and local history, all leavened with cock-ups and confessions.

There will be a modest extra charge for the meeting to reflect the cost of staging this prestigious event.
