Cruising Association introduces new guide on 'Cruising the Dutch Islands of the Waddenzee'

The Cruising Association (CA) unveils its latest guide Cruising the Dutch Islands of the Waddenzee, highlighting the many hidden gems within the UNESCO World Heritage listed Wadden Sea.

While hundreds of boats transit The Netherlands via the Standing Mast Routes or explore the well-known inland waterways of Noord Holland and Friesland, few venture into the Wadden Sea to discover the islands of Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog.

Despite their appeal, the islands’ reputation for challenging navigation, changeable weather and expanses of drying mudflats has tended to deter some foreign boaters. Dutch enthusiasts have long enjoyed their unspoiled beauty. The CA's European Inland Waterways Section (EIWS) seeks to promote island visits with the new guide Cruising the Dutch Islands of the Waddenzee authored by Dutch CA members Machiel Lambooij and Remko Sinck.

Written primarily for motorboat owners, the guide is designed to provide all the information needed for a safe and enjoyable visit. It offers comprehensive information on all the islands, facilities, attractions, along with detailed routes to arrive there, both from the Standing Mast Route and the North Sea. Navigation and weather planning tools give guidance on a safe passage along with advice on documentation and licence requirements. Available in print and online PDF formats, the guide features numerous hyperlinks and QR codes for additional online resources.

"If you haven't visited the Wadden Islands (Waddeneilanden in Dutch), then you really haven't visited the Netherlands," commented Machiel Lambooij. "Their reputation as a difficult cruising destination is undeserved and with the right planning and advice, which this new guide provides, a visit to them is well within the capabilities of any competent skipper."

The 92-page, full-colour guide can be purchased in print for £15 plus P&P from the CA's inland Waterways Section online bookstore and downloaded as a PDF (free to members) from the CA Shop at the same price.
