The CA is thrilled to announce the winners of the 2024 CAptain’s Mate Photo Competition. This annual competition is designed to inspire and encourage members to share cruising information by uploading their photos to the app.

The photos uploaded during the 2024 season reflect the incredible diversity and beauty of cruising locations around the world, with members capturing pilotage information, the uniqueness of destinations and bringing hidden gems to life.

Christiansø in Denmark is an unforgettable location for many CA members, and described as a 'gem with a fascinating history'. A fortified rock in the 'middle of nowhere' (or 12 miles from Bornholm), this nature reserve offers a wild, remote charm.

Cruising Association honours Kirsten Neuschäfer with The Duchess of Kent Trophy

History-making sailor Kirsten Neuschäfer has been awarded the prestigious Duchess of Kent Trophy by the Cruising Association in recognition of her extraordinary victory in the 2022 Golden Globe Race and heroic rescue of fellow sailor Tapio Lehtinen.

ETA launched on 8th January 2025 for non-EU visitors to the UK

As previously reported in the December issue of Cruising, the UK Electronic Travel Authorisation system (ETA) is now in force for visitors to the UK. This applies to visitors from countries outside Europe (including Australia, New Zealand and the United States) who do not have a visa or other permission to stay in the UK. The ETA costs £10, lasts for two years or until your passport expires if that's earlier.
