Orca Project Update: Interaction Reports

Since 2022, the CA has worked closely with the marine biologists at Grupo Trabajo Orca Atlantica (GTOA) to track and record orca interactions. Recently, with more reports being shared on social media, GTOA has helped by monitoring these channels alongside the official CA portal to help maintain data that is as up to date as possible.

Current Data Status

Due to what we hope is a temporary staff shortage, GTOA has been unable to provide verified orca interaction reports for May 2025. This means the CA website, GTOA website and the GT Orcas app currently show outdated data.

What the CA is doing

The CA orca project team is encouraging skippers to report directly via the CA portal. We have also updated our website to reflect the current pause in GTOA data. We are monitoring the situation with GTOA.

Your Help Matters

To help maintain accurate data records, please continue reporting interactions via the CA orca portal: www.theca.org.uk/orcas.

Reporting via the CA website ensures systematic recording of interactions that directly feed into academic research by GTOA and others. Unfortunately, posts to social media are a poor source of data.

Please also share this update with fellow cruisers who may be transiting the Iberian Peninsula.

The CA orca project team will provide any further update on the CA website.
