The seminar is built around three practical themes: Choosing the Right Motorboat for You, Getting Underway, and Destinations - and How to Reach Them.
Whether you are contemplating your first purchase or considering a change, these sessions led by experienced members will help you make informed decisions.
Breakout sessions will focus on building practical know-how so you can cruise with confidence, giving attendees the opportunity to explore key motorboating themes in more depth, ask questions, share experiences and connect with fellow motorboaters.
Introducing the themes
Theme 1 - Choosing the Right Motorboat for You
Whether buying your first boat or planning a change, this session will help you make informed, confident decisions about ownership and life afloat. Topics include:
- Transition from sail to motor
- Key tax and paperwork: where to buy and keep your boat
- Selecting a boat to match your cruising ambitions
- Cooking and food storage solutions onboard
Theme 2 - Getting Underway
Build the practical skills and confidence needed to plan and execute successful passages. Sessions will explore:
- Structured and effective trip planning
- Anchoring with confidence
- Using weather tools to support decision-making
- Safety equipment and key legal considerations
Theme 3 - Destinations – and How to Reach Them
Be inspired by some superb cruising waters and gain practical insight into planning memorable passages. Discussions will include:
- Cruising the non-tidal Thames
- North Sea routes to Belgium and the Netherlands
- Through the Netherlands to the Baltic without mast
- Exploring the South West of the UK

The seminar is in person only at CA House, London. Participation is open to both members and non-members.
Timings: 1000 hrs coffee and registration / 1030 hrs start of seminar / 1700 hrs seminar ends with informal meetings around destinations in the CA Galley bar and optional dinner afterwards.
