North Sea to Baltic by motorboat - via the Kiel Kanal or the Elbe-Lübeck Kanal
By Dutch CA members Machiel Lambooij & Remko Sinck
Whether you’re planning your next trip or simply curious about exploring new possibilities, this is a talk you won’t want to miss! Join us for the first Wintertalk of the Motorboat Section as Machiel and Remko share their first-hand experiences navigating the Kiel Kanal (Nord-Ostsee-Kanal) and the Elbe–Lübeck Kanal — two very different routes to the Baltic.
Reopened last year after more than twelve months of closure, the Elbe–Lübeck Kanal offers a slower and longer, yet beautifully scenic alternative to the Kiel Kanal. With its charming landscapes and the chance to visit vibrant Hamburg and historic Lübeck, it’s an route well worth considering — and best of all, it’s free of charge!
During the talk, Machiel and Remko will also explore alternative inland routes that can be used instead of the usual full North Sea passage to the German Bight. You’ll learn about height restrictions, voyage planning, practical tips, and the best overnighting spots along the way.
This talk is open for members of the Cruising Association of all sections and for non-members. Given the height restrictions it will be focussed on motorboats.
