IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE USING THESE RESOURCES
- Interaction Map Limitations
The CA interaction location map should only be used to access reports (click the pin) and displays only a sample of all interactions. It is not comprehensive. To check recent interactions, use the GT Orcas app (a href="https://apps.apple.com/us/app/gt-orcas/id6446023606" target="_blank">Apple Store / Google Play). For comprehensive historical interaction data, refer to the GTOA monthly maps. - Interaction Location Table
A month-by-month geographic interaction table (compiled by the CA from the GTOA monthly maps) may be useful when planning your journey. - Interpreting Comparative Data
The comparative data details statistics extracted from interaction reports and compares them against control data from uneventful passage reports (passages without incident through areas of orca activity). Note how the interaction data differs from the control set. Be aware that the relatively low number of reports means the data has low statistical significance. - Accessing Full Reports
There are two ways to view full reports:- Interaction map - by clicking on the pin, or
- List of reports - (in date order, most recent first) to view each interaction report.
- Skippers? Interaction Comments Library
You can view the library of comments which are extracted from interaction reports and collated into different actions taken during an interaction. Where more than one deterrent measure was used, some comments are allocated to more than one action. Remember these are anecdotal comments and you should judge for yourself what worked and what did not
Reminder: These resources are informational only ? always cross-reference with current advisories.
ANALYSIS OF INTERACTIONS
You can also view an analysis of orca interactions by location, year and month since 2020. Data obtained from GTOA's monthly interaction maps at www.orcaiberica.org
