SW Section Lunch and Talk

A talk by SW member Graham Gibson; ‘Atlantic Cruising’. A year ago Graham came to our Laying-up Lunch and towards the end of the afternoon we were all chipping in with where we had sailed and he quietly said ‘I’ve just returned from an Atlantic circuit’, so we asked him if he would be kind enough to come and tell us all about it! Many of us dream of such a trip, so if you have done it come and reminisce, if you plan to do it come and be informed, if you dream come and enjoy!

Saturday February 22nd  2014, SW and Lyme Bay Sections joint winter gathering, Doina Cornell; Child of the Sea.Our speaker will be Doina, our lunch will be a buffet provided by Delicious Delights and during the discussion members will share experiences of longer distance off shore cruising, including ‘the things we wouldn’t be without’! Doina is as many will know daughter of the renowned blue-water yachtsman Jimmy Cornell, she will be speaking on her childhood sailing round the world and to exciting places even now little visited.

So if you have never heard of the 'Crab Navy' now is the time to be enlightened, Ed regularly contributes to the SW Newsletter so members will be familiar with his entertaining style, this promises to be an amusing evening.

Our first gathering of the winter season, a daytime event with an interesting talk, a relaxed informal lunch and then discussion time between members on matters relating to self- sufficency while cruising in coastal areas where anchoring or moorings is the norm, anchors and anchoring in arocky seabed, washing, spares and repairs, shopping, weather info, navigation, whatever comes up!

Wednesday March 20thThe Royal Western Yacht Club, Plymouth, Peter and Penny Adam, CA and RWYC members will, after the club supper, tell us about Sailing around the Balearic Islands. Their synopsis reads: In 2012, Penny and Peter Adam sailed 1500 miles their Sun Odyssey 37 Pearl of Wembury from mainland Spain around all four of the Balearic Islands: Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. They spent most nights at anchor, but they also hired cars to explore the interiors of these attractive and diverse islands.

Wednesday December 5th 2012, Royal Western Yacht Club, Plymouth, Will Taylor; My Landlady’s Sister bought me a 50 foot Pilot Cutter; a tragi-comedy in three parts. Will is part of the merry band that run Lyme Bay Section, his current vessel has made it to the other side of the channel in one piece and is based there. This talk will be about the restoration of one of his previous craft.
