Beginning in Biscay CA House, Limehouse, E14 8BT Saturday October 28th 2017
Does the Bay of Biscay deserve its reputation of storms and heavy seas? Why do so many people linger in these waters? The Rias of Northern Spain are a famous cruising area, but what else does this coastline have to offer?
A day of presentations on Cruising and practical matters for those considering cruising in Atlantic France, Northern Spain, Portugal and onwards to Gibraltar. The cost of attendance includes an information pack, a two-course hot-buffet lunch, teas and coffees.
Further to the notice here of closures of the lock into the River Vilaine at Arzal in Southern Brittany during July, the lock will also be closed, apparently due to lack of water, during the following dates in August:
The lock into the River Vilaine at Arzal in Southern Brittany will not operate on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout July (2017) because of low water levels. Lock opening times, in English and French, are on the La Vilaine website here. or telephone 09 69 32 97. There is a waiting pontoon downstream of the lock with access ashore, but no water or power.

The Bay of Biscay is renowned for winter storms but what does it offer the cruising boater during the summer? Why do so many choose to linger? Are there any sheltered anchorages?

Midsummer Rallies Western France June 25th & 26th 2016
We are repeating the informal get-togethers that we have held for the past two years. Wherever we are on 25th and 26th June, boats may welcome other CA members to join them. The form of the rally/meet will be in the hands of members who have volunteered to act as hosts.
Mon, 20/06/2016 - 00:00 to Fri, 01/07/2016 - 00:00
The Rally will begin in Ribadesella on June 20th and our final port of call will be Gihon, ending there on July 1st, perhaps spending time in Lastres, thus providing easy cruising between ports. The Rally has been timed to avoid the crowds that this coast attracts in high season, but when the weather should be kind to us. The scenery in this part of Spain is stunning, and the Northern coast has a very different culture to that of the Mediterranean. There is a great deal to see and do.
