The inaugural Mini Globe: an extraordinary journey of resilience, courage, and adventure, Adam Waugh

In February 2025 fifteen identical 19 foot Class Globe 580 sail boats set out to circumnavigate the world, the smallest boats ever to have attempted such a feat. This was the inaugural Mini Globe, a solo, unassisted race covering 23,000 nautical miles.

Adam set out on this epic journey in a boat he built by hand in his garden shed—without prior boatbuilding experience. Little Wren, named after the tiny bird, that nested in the shed during construction, was launched in March 2024. To qualify for the race, he had to sail across the Atlantic from Lanzarote to Antigua, a passage he completed in three weeks. Fifteen boats started the race and eleven completed the course with Adam coming into Antigua on 8th March 2026 finishing in 5th place.

Adam’s mission was not just to conquer the world’s toughest oceans but to raise vital funds for the Ella Dawson Foundation, supporting young adults living with cancer. He became an ambassador for the charity and after the race joined the board of trustees. He has so far raised £75,000 out of his target of £100,000.
