Italy - Water tracks less-well travelled, Cath Bruzzone

From 2022, Cath and partner David and sailed their X-Yacht 40, Minx, down the Italian west coast and explored the toe and the heel of the peninsula. Cath will talk about their experience of the Mezzogiorno - the Italian regions of Campania, Calabria, Basilicata and Puglia (leaving out Sicily and the Aeolian Islands, this time). This is an area that’s not so well-known by UK sailors and until recently, was fairly remote and unloved, but has a fascinating ancient and more recent history, friendly people…and great food!

Cath Bruzzone and David Hopwood started sailing dinghies in their youth. Cath crewed for her dad in a Snipe at the Medway Yacht Club and David crewed a Coypus in the Scouts. They then raced variously Fireflies, Enterprises, Fireballs, Hornets, Lasers and Tasars. After chartering ‘big boats’ for holidays, they bought Minx in December 2018 and sailed from Southampton down and round the Med, six weeks in the spring and six in the autumn. Retired now, Cath is co-owner of a children’s book publisher and David is an architect.

For those attending in person, the Mediterranean Section 'Laying Up Supper' will follow the talk. Depending on the numbers booking, this will be either your choice from the Galley menu (orders to be placed at the bar on arrival) or a hot buffet, cost TBC.
