The Antarctic by Owen Evans

As Second Officer with the British Antarctic Survey, Owen spent time visiting both polar regions when his particular role was as Navigation Officer; this must have presented unusual challenges. He is now better known to us on the East Coast as Deputy Harbour Master in Brightlingsea.

Date: Thursday 25th March 2021, daytime.

Registration, opens on 8th February 2021 at 09:00.

(Our registrations are handled by Eventbrite but it is not necessary to sign up for an account with them.)

Covid-19 Special Arrangements for our Winter Talks: Due to Government regulations, it is unlikely that the Royal Harwich Yacht Club will be able to accommodate the usual number of participants for our social events this winter. We are therefore planning to broadcast each talk live on Zoom for people who cannot be at the Club. Moreover, if the regulations prohibit a live performance by a speaker in front of an audience, then the lecture will be delivered on Zoom to the audience at the Club as well as to those at home.

You may register to attend the talk On Zoom or At the Club.

On Zoom: Meeting opens at 13:30. We aim to make this a sociable meeting. You will be able to enjoy the illustrated talk, ask questions and interact with other participants if you wish. The Zoom Meeting details will be emailed to you the day before the event. Registration is for one device with as many watching as you wish.

You may find the following useful:  Hints and Tips on using Zoom.

At the Club: Doors open at 11:00; Lecture at 11:30; Bar opens at 12:30; Lunch at 13:00. Reservations may be made for groups of between 3 and 6 people sitting together at one table, and these people may be from up to 2 different households or support bubbles. Nearer the date of the event, when we are sure how many we can safely seat at the Club, you will be asked to pay for your meal. If attending at the Club is not possible, your registration will be transferred to Zoom and we hope that you will join us in this way.

There is no charge for registering for the Winter Talks for the time being.

Places are limited for both attendance At the Club and On Zoom, so to avoid disappointment, please book early.
