Cancelled: East Coast Rally 2020

It is with regret, but caution and regard for everyone in relation to the Covid-19 virus, that we have taken the decision to cancel the May East Coast Spring Rally. Anyone who has booked and paid will receive a full refund.

This year's rally begins on the historic 75th anniversary of VE Day, kicking off with an all-weather pontoon party (indoors in the Royal Harwich Yacht Club Orwell room). There is a packed itinerary, detailed below, including an historic walk around Harwich, a visit to the Ganges Museum, a private art exhibition viewing and a three course VE Day dinner with guest speaker, Dr Anthony Cooper on VE Day in Context.

There will also be our traditional 'Passage Race' based on predicting your Estimated Time of Arrival at the RHYC. Thursday, Friday or Saturday, depending on your arrival day. Open to motorhomes too, just follow the rules and additional information detailed on the January newsletter.

Time: Arrival and berthing at RHYC anytime on Thursday 7 May to Friday 8 May (HW Harwich Friday 8 May: 12:14 BST, Range 4.6m)

Venue: Royal Harwich Yacht Club plus excursions

Cost: (per person) Supper and entertainment on Saturday £26, Harwich Ferry and Guide £9, Ganges Museum £2. Marina berths extra at preferential rates.

Itinerary:

Friday:

17:30 All-weather pontoon party - bring your own glasses, nibbles and a bottle

Saturday:

09:30 - Drive in shared transport to Shotley Marina.

10:00 - Ferry to Harwich.

10:15 - Meet guide for an historic walk round Harwich including a visit to the new Mayflower visitor centre and Captain Jones house.

12:15 - Own lunch arrangements (ample pub info will be supplied).

14:50 - Return ferry to Shotley.

15:00 - Visit to Ganges Museum.

16:30 onwards - Depart for RHYC.

17:30 - Private Viewing of RH Art Exhibition, with glass of Prosecco. Many exhibits of nautical nature available for purchase.

18:30 - Gather in RHYC Clubhouse.

19:00 - VE Day Dinner. Three courses.  For each person eating please choose one item from each course (vegetarian options available) and inform Elspeth Iskander of your choice before Sunday 3 May.  Menu choices below.  dinner will be followed by speaker Dr Anthony Cooper, VE Day in Context.

Starter

  • Smoked duck and onion marmalade
  • Moroccan Lamb skewers with mint sauce

Main Course

  • Lemon and pesto marinated chicken breast, roast new potatoes, asparagus and creamy garlic sauce
  • Salmon and herbs wrapped in filo pastry served with creamy leeks and baby potatoes

Dessert

  • Banofffee salted caramel crunch
  • Strawberry tart with whipped cream
