South West Section Laying-up Lunch

Our first gathering of the winter season, a daytime event with an interesting talk, a relaxed informal lunch and then discussion time between members on matters relating to self- sufficency while cruising in coastal areas where anchoring or moorings is the norm, anchors and anchoring in arocky seabed, washing, spares and repairs, shopping, weather info, navigation, whatever comes up!

Our talk is

Andy Thomson on ‘Sailing Scotland – our three year ‘gap year’’. Andy’s synopsis of the talk - ‘we planned to sail round the UK in about three months starting from our home port, Salcombe. We ended up with a three season sojourn in Scotland. Why did we do it? What attracted us so much to the area? We’ll tell you about our ‘must visit’ areas together with a few comments on  what did and did not work for us and the reality of planning (clearly ours changed!). This was our first opportunity to actually be ‘live aboards’ for several months at a time so here’s our experience of a new way of life in a wonderful and sometimes very different part of the world. It’s on our doorstep (almost) and we are hooked!
