Around the Atlantic in a Year

Richard is a Yachtmaster with over 40 years’ experience of yachting on the south coast of England in the Solent, the West Country, Channel Islands and the North coast of France as well as yacht charters in Greece and Croatia. Alison started sailing when she was 18 when her brother, a master mariner who was sailing catamarans off Southend for fun, said she had to learn to sail first before he would take her with him. She dutifully joined the sailing club at Kingston University (or Polytechnic as it then was) and learnt to sail from side to side on the Thames at Kingston.

During the talk they will outline their:

  • Preparation of ourselves and the boat – 2 years of hard work
  • Benefits and drawbacks of taking part in a rally
  • Passage making vs cruising – sailing to a schedule
  • Setting free and sailing on our own
  • Coming home – the return passage
