RYA Offshore Safety Course (ISAF)

Details: The aim of the 1 day RYA / ISAF Offshore Safety Course is to provide skippers and crews of yachts taking part in offshore races with the necessary skills and knowledge to deal with an emergency. The course will give you a good knowledge of the safety equipment carried on small boats and the seamanship techniques needed to survive at sea in heavy weather.

Details: This is a one day course held in a classroom and a swimming pool.  You will learn about and handle safety equipment. You will learn how to use it in an emergency.  This has two elements. It starts at 9.30am with a classroom based course. There you will learn about crucial safety equipment, flares, life-rafts, distress beacons, lifejackets. You will learn the use of and operation of them and actually have the opportunity to examine the equipment at close quarters.

Details: Mechanical failure is the main cause of rescue call-outs to cruisers. Basic maintenance and engine care will help ensure that you are not part of this statistic. The RYA Diesel Engine Maintenance Course is essential for all users of today's boats. Students are assessed by short exercises during the course and practical work with two demonstration engines.

VHF Radio Course and Assessment

Date: 21st January 2017, 10am - 5pm, plus Assessment on the 22nd of January.

Place: CA House

Details: A VHF radio is an essential piece of safety equipment and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. The course will teach you these procedures. To get the VHF Radio Licence, (Short Range Certificate SRC) you must successfully complete a course and then take a separate classroom based assessment.
