Hurst Point Sector light: curtailment of extinguishment

In our August newsletter to members, we reported that the CA’s Regulations and Technical Services group (RATS) had written to Trinity House regarding the timing of the Hurst Point Sector light being extinguished for maintenance – see Notice to Mariners 27/2022. The original plan by Trinity House was for the Iso WRG 4s Sector Light to be non-operational from 22 to 30 August, incorporating the August Bank Holiday weekend. RATS was concerned about the impact on the boating community during this busy time on the water.

We’re very pleased to now report that Trinity House has replied in appreciation of our concerns with a change of plan. They will be mobilising their engineering teams and the vessel needed for the visual checks of the light’s performance and accuracy and, subject to no unforeseen delays, expect to have the light fully operational before the Bank Holiday weekend. A further Notice to Mariners will be issued as soon as the light is fully operational.

RATS have an established relationship with Trinity House, allowing us to keep members informed of important changes as well as being involved with consultations on relevant navigational issues of concern to the cruising community.
