Navigating the Arctic, David Fairhall - POSTPONED due to snow

POSTPONED UNTIL THE 2ND OF MARCH

Navigating the Arctic – The Consequences of its Imminent Meltdown,  David Fairhall

David has sent us the following introduction to his talk: “I have never sailed in the Arctic - unless you consider warships and fishing vessels to be 'sailing' - and few yachts will be venturing across the NE and NW passages even when the summers are ice-free. My talk will be based on the book I wrote in 2010: 'Cold Front', later published in the US, about the dramatic consequences of a fast-melting Arctic Ocean, especially where maritime activities are concerned. It is, as you will have noticed, a highly topical
subject with a fascinating history. The accelerating melt will affect us all in ways that are likely to be of particular interest to seafarers, but the connection is a general one, not specific to yachtsmen.”
