Seminar:Cutting the Risks of Cruising

The Cruising Association’s South West Section is hosting this seminar for sailors in the south west who are dreaming, planning or enjoying offshore cruising. We hope that a mix of inshore and offshore, motor cruising and rags and sticks sailors will find the day informative and interesting for extending their current cruising comfort zones. The speakers will include; Andrew Ecclestone, Weather Watching, Martin Bidmead MRCC; Keith Boswell RNLI; Sue Thatcher, Nurse and Medic on the Challange yachts, First Aid and Medical Emergencies at Sea.

Supper and Talk; Atlantic Circuit with the Exiting Bits

Royal Cornwall YC, Wednesday February 23rd  2011; Simon Fraser; ‘An Atlantic Circuit with the Exciting Bits!’ Simon was for many years known to his CA friends as the man who explored to the top of every creek or river, estuary or mudflat. This evening will be different, this is ocean cruising followed by two seasons enjoying holiday brochure islands in the Caribbean then, on the way back to the UK from the Azores, he will tell us about what all offshore sailors prepare for but hope will never happen!

Royal Western YC, Wednesday January 19th 2011; Joe Lovelady, Admiralty Pilot. Why do we have Admiralty Pilots as well as the commercial ones in the precincts of Plymouth Sound? Joe will explain this and all the work covered by the Admiralty Pilots and illustrates his talk with pictures including showing us all the variety of ships that belong to Her Majesties Royal Navy.
