Members’ Short Presentations on their Summer Cruising
Our first meeting this winter and the December Pre-Christmas Party will take place at the Water’s Edge Restaurant at Mercury Yacht Harbour, Satchell Lane, Hamble SO31 4HQ.
An opportunity for members to share some of their cruising experiences and exchange information on potential destinations.
Members willing to share their cruising 'highs' and 'lows' on January 22nd are asked to contact David Hailes, (01202 m706280) to let him know the title and duration of their talk/presenatation so that a balanced programme can be assembled.
It does not need to be an all singing and dancing PowerPoint presentation, members are interested in where you sailed and what advice you would give. Someone else may be thinking of following in your wake.
Just across the channel is a vast expanse of inland waterways waiting to be explored. To share with us the delights and the pitfalls of this different cruising experience no one better than Roger Edgar, Jt. Sec of the CA’s European Inland Waterways Section.
ALL SAILORS WELCOME
C.A. members & Parkstone Yacht Club members free.

The tides have a major effect on our time on the water – and have a seemingly infinite variability around the world. From Ungava Bay to Lowestoft, from Venice to Port Circumcision, from Galileo to Dr. Doodson, here is a description of the basic theory of how and why tides happen, how predictions are generated, and some of the other effects that we need to look out for.
Whoops! Enjoy some nautical clangers. by Graham Anthony
Tragedies at sea are no laughing matter; they are usually the result of man's obstinacy and perversity. We look at how these factors led to several spectacular sinkings, and the political ramifications that followed. Graham Anthony balances these serious issues with some amusing interludes. This talk is informative, challenging and entertaining. It is suitable both for sailors and anyone interested in the less well known issues of safety at sea.
