About the CA

Welcome to the Cruising Association - your perfect cruising partner

The Cruising Association (CA) is a leading organisation for cruising sail and motor boaters, providing a global network of services, information, help and advice to our 6,300 members.

Whether you’re just starting out and cruising in UK waters, or are planning to journey under power along Europe’s Inland Waterways; or maybe you’re a seasoned boat owner heading for more distant shores, the benefits of CA membership are many and varied – we are your most valuable, knowledgeable and practical cruising asset, providing a support network…wherever you are.

Our website provides a definitive resource of cruising information, programme of events, rallies, talks and socials, cruising guides and publications, expertise on rules and regulations affecting cruising, online forums and much more.

Benefits of CA membership

The advantages and benefits of joining the Cruising Association are vast. Knowledge and expertise is at the heart of the Cruising Association and our mission is to share that with our sail and motor members.

One of the Cruising Association’s objectives is to be a centre of excellence for the support of cruising activities, and that flows through in all that we do.

Whatever information you need, you will find it on our website, in our publications and in our community. Fitting out, where to cruise, laying-up, staying in touch, local regulations, ports and pilotage around the world, maintenance, crewing service, marine discount partners, club house, events programme and much, much more.

Key Benefits

Cruising Association members enjoy a host of other year-round benefits, including a club house in London with restaurant, bar, meeting rooms, accommodation and a world leading marine library.

RATS (Regulations and Technical Services)

Our Regulations and Technical Services group (RATS) are at the forefront of advocating for the cruising community, providing guidance on regulatory issues, and making representation to local, national and international government.

RATS works on behalf of sail and motor cruisers to represent their interests and address issues of concern or interest on regulatory and technical aspects of small boat cruising. They research topics and issues and follow political trends, interact with international, national, legislative, trade, special interest and local bodies. Often these bodies seek help, advice, or comments from RATS.

RATS has provided comprehensive information on the impact of the UK leaving the EU to support the cruising community.

The CA Sections

We have dedicated Cruising Sections, covering local member groups around the UK and broader networks in popular cruising areas around the world. The combined experience of all our members is channelled through these sections, allowing members to gain first-hand knowledge and advice, and socialise with other members. Sections have online forums for members to exchange information relevant to that cruising area.

  • Local member groups in the UK and Antipodes (see map below)
  • Broader networks in cruising areas around the world (see below)
