NORTH SEA SECTION 2013 RALLY & CRUISE IN COMPANY
Rally at RHYC, Woolverstone, River Orwell , Suffolk Saturday 29 June – Sunday 30 June
With cruise in company to Ostend and Antwerp Monday 1 July – Saturday 6 July
The Programme
The secretaries of the North Sea Section warmly invite you to join our 2 day rally at Woolverstone to meet fellow members and exchange experiences on the many delights of cruising the North Sea area.
Participants, with or without boats, should assemble at the RHYC from midday on Saturday, and at approx 1600 hrs there will be a drinks reception on Yacht Joelle, with your two secretaries. At 1900 hrs supper will be taken at the newly rebuilt clubhouse of the Royal Harwich Yacht Club.
On Sunday mid-morning a seminar will be conducted on Joelle into the techniques and equipment available for climbing your mast including a practical demonstration. This will be followed by a leisurely amble along the river bank for lunch at Pin Mill.
In the afternoon for those able to join the cruise in company to Ostend and Antwerp there will be a briefing and review of passage plans.
All CA members and their friends are welcome to the weekend rally - with or without boats.
Participants will settle all RHYC restaurant, bar charges and mooring fees directly.
A North Sea Section entry charge of just £5 per head will be payable on the day for participants to any part of the programme.
Programme Details:
Saturday 29 June (HW Harwich: 17.14 BST)
Morning/ Afternoon: Arrival and berthing . Section secretaries on hand to take lines.
Sundown: Welcome drinks on Joelle
Evening: Supper at the RHYC.
Sunday 30 June (HW Harwich: 18.06 BST)
Mid Morning: Seminar and Demonstration of mast climbing.
Late Morning: Gentle meander to Pin Mill to take the view and refreshments.
Afternoon: Members not continuing with the cruise in company are welcome to remain enjoying the facilities and ambience of the Royal Harwich Yacht Club.
Early Evening: For members continuing to Belgium, crew briefing in Clubhouse.
Cruise in Company – passage outline
On Monday an early departure to Ostend is envisaged to take advantage of tides. Tuesday is scheduled as a leisurely break in port. Wednesday, the fleet departs for Breskens and Antwerp - possibly stopping at Terneuzen depending on conditions and members’ inclinations. Arrival in Antwerp late Thursday is followed by a full day exploring the town on the Friday. Saturday disperse. Members may depart the cruise at any time.
Itinerary Summary
Subject to members’ preferences and the weather, the outline itinerary will be:
Monday 1 July (HW Harwich: 06.44) Depart Woolverstone for Ostend at 06.00 BST
Tuesday 2 July: relaxing day in Ostend; breakfast crepes in a seafront cafe
Wednesday 3 July: coastal trip to Breskens. Supper in the lively clubhouse
Thursday 4 July: early departure for passage up the impressive Westerschelde to Antwerp
Friday 5 July: Introduction to the glories of Antwerp
Saturday 6 July: Rally formally ends
