Tanja Marina in Tangier on the Atlantic coast of Morocco is our destination for CAptain’s Mate of the Month in May.
Jutting out into the Strait of Gibraltar, Tanja Marina is Morocco’s first urban marina with plenty of capacity, and construction underway to double the number of berths. The marina offers good protection, is close to the town centre and has numerous onsite facilities and amenities. The CAptain’s Mate overview describes Tanja Marina as ‘first class with attentive staff and very safe’.
CA Members Andy and Tina Travell overwintered at the marina in 2022/2023 on their 12m catamaran and, along with many other members, share their insights and experience on CAptain’s Mate.
With its proximity to Tangier city, getting around from the marina is easy and a short walk brings you to the medina and street markets, as Andy says: "Safe, secure environment, friendly staff and welcoming people. Close to the commercial new town, historic medina (10mins walk), beach and very pleasant seafront for promenading."
Recommending Tangier, Andy continues: "Lots to do and see with good overland transport links to explore other regions of Morocco. International airport, a short taxi ride away. The marina complex is only partially completed, the next phase is in the pipeline!! There is a huge amount of general construction in the local area. Recommend this interesting city for short or long stopover."
