Essex Section Supper & Talk: Carry on cruising

Essex Section Supper & Talk: Carry on cruising

Venue: Blackwater Sailing Club (map)

Date: Saturday 12th January 2019

Time: 19:00 (supper), talk begins 20:30, you can expect to get away by 22:00

Attending: All welcome. CA & BSC members: talk and meal £15, talk only £3. Non members: talk and meal £17, talk only £5

Talk: In May 2012 Sam suffered a massive stroke which affected both his mobility and his language very badly. There are laughs and lessons for us all in what happened next.

Camilla describes how she and Sam took the decision to carry on sailing with the help of family, friends, and the CA Crewing Service. They have sailed very gently in the Baltic, England’s east coast, and the Netherlands, and have recently returned from two seasons in southern Brittany. There are many physical and emotional challenges, but on balance both Sam and Camilla feel they’d rather be arguing on board their own boat than sitting at home and wishing they still owned her.

Some of you will spot a message in this year's talk subjects. We don't have any excuses to stay in our own cruising area, even if it is the best!

Supper:

Chicken with fennel, lemon, shallots, garlic and mustard mayo

Cottage Pie

Oven baked asparagus and Parmesan tortilla

-------------------------

Millionaires chocolate tart

Roasted apricots with rosewater creme fraiche

Cheese & Biscuits

There is plenty of parking space.

As usual the bar will be available. Please note that the CA now need to subsidise the bar if the takings are not sufficient to cover the cost of opening it so attendees are encouraged to make make full use of the facilities. (Except of course for your designated driver!)

A flyer is attached, please print for your sailing club notice board. Find this event in our online bookings facility or contact the section secretary at essex@theca.org.uk. BSC members can sign up at the club. You can turn up and pay on the door but we won't promise a meal unless you have booked.
