The long running saga of the Greek Cruising Tax, known as the TEPAI, was due for implementation on 2 April 2019 following the first attempt to introduce it in 2014.

On Thursday May 9th, the Greek Government finally put the Tax into operation.

Following our piece last month on VHF radio checks, RATS has come across the use of National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) stations to check AIS transmissions. This seems to us to be good practice, certainly at the beginning of the season. A vessel’s AIS transceiver may use the same antenna as the VHF set or a separate one. As with VHF radios the most likely cause of any fault is the antenna or cable or the splitter (if the antenna is shared with VHF).

The CA pays tribute to Sir Robin Knox-Johnston

Over the Easter weekend, CA members and staff joined hundreds of well-wishers in Falmouth, Cornwall, as well as many of Britain’s leading sailors, in paying tribute to Sir Robin on the 50th anniversary of the date he made history. At 15.25 on 22nd April 1969, he entered the record books as the first person to sail solo, non-stop, around the world.

An informal lunchtime reception was hosted by the CA and kindly sponsored by MS Amlin for CA members and members of the Little Ship Club at the Chain Locker on Easter Sunday.
